Seven Questions I ask myself Everyday

The way you think says a lot about you as a person. It’s part of what makes us all unique and makes the world interesting. It’s also what makes some of you a bloody pain in the arse, but never mind. Anyway, I thought I would delve into my own brain a bit by looking at the top 7 questions I ask myself everyday. This should be interesting, but it might be really boring.

1.       What time is it?
For obvious reasons, the question I most frequently ask myself. We all seem to spend most of our days waiting for time to go by, so as we can move onto the next pleasure in our lives. For example, very often I can’t wait for the weekend so I can get out of my mind drunk and have a pizza afterwards. But time is one of those things that go by faster if you don’t look at it. It’s like having someone sneaking up behind you. It only moves when your attention is elsewhere.

2.       Is the weather going to be nice to me?
No. It’s Lancashire. It will break you.

3.       Where the fuck is my ipod?

It’s getting to the point where I find it hard to be alone on public transport without 4 gigabytes (yes, it’s an old model) of music in my pocket. I think of it as a little generator that creates a bubble around me that no one can enter unless I permit them to, or they bump into me by accident. We all do it now. Often you will see people sitting in rows on public transport, all with their heads miles away as they slightly nod their head to whatever rhythm is being pushed into their ears. So, everyday I ask myself where mine is, and of course I know really the answer is in the pocket of yesterdays jeans, but nonetheless still have to go through the ritual of tearing my room apart in search of the damn thing before realizing this. Talk about force of habit.

4.       Has anyone texted/called me *hastily checks phone at every opportunity*?
I ask myself this at least 10 times every day. There’s nothing like that little bit of instant gratification you get off a text message, whether it says ‘I love you’ or even if it just says ‘I think the dog has shat in your room.’ There’s also nothing like that panic a missed call can cause, when someone who doesn’t normally call you rings and you think ‘what do they want I wonder? Oh god, is it something urgent? ARGH,’ only to phone back and discover they are now ignoring their phone or were simply calling to ask if they could borrow your Lord of the Rings box set. Happy days.

5.       Am I addicted to Facebook?
Of course I’m not addicted. Just because I check it about 15 times a day and scroll down through post after post of the newsfeed doesn’t mean I have a problem. It’s just part of the student lifestyle. It’s how we procrastinate/function most of the time. If I carry this habit on into the real world, then I will have a problem. I will also have really cool status to put up when the men in white coats come.

6.       Is that girl checking me out, or just smiling worriedly hoping I won’t follow her home?
This, I admit, is a somewhat eccentric quality of mine. People stare at me sometimes (funnily enough because I’m perfectly normal really) and when I catch them, I find myself determined to stare them out. Every time I think they are staring at me I quickly look up, just in time to see their gaze shift, or to realise they are looking out the bus window minding their own business like a sane person. The main people I get into these little standoffs are attractive women, surprisingly.  This is because a) I can’t help myself and b) I’ve been known to be arrogant enough to assume that if a woman is staring at me she is checking me out, and so therefore I must check her out in return, and then do absolutely nothing.
7.       What would I do if I was Superman?
Okay, I know, I’m starting to get stupid with this, but I’m just being honest. I always catch myself thinking how great it would be to be able to fly to uni, rather than having to get the bus, or being able to pick up cars with one hand, or what I would use my x-ray vision for *cough*. I’m pretty sure a lot of you will have fantasized about having super powers of some form, or maybe what it would be like to be a spy or something. I just really like superman.
Well, that was interesting. I imagine most people have a lot better questions that they ask themselves, most of which are probably a lot more relevant to reality than mine are. Hopefully you got a kick out of this insight into how my brain functions. Personally, I’ve realized that I need to spend less time imagining I’m superman and more time trying to improve my real life.
