A sailor thrown into the sea
By evil friends with sadist’s glee,
Floated and swam as best he could
But kept stern faced and never would,
Shed anymore than one single tear
Under the moon he found so dear.
He was grateful that in his past
He’d done good and right to the last,
Done a brave deed and saved beauty
Of the sea as honors duty.
His body was cold and mind was clear,
Under the moon he loved so dear.
But lunar saw that he would drown
She searched with her light and she found,
The beauty that the sailor had saved
And said “help him from this watery grave!”
She replied, “I shall. He must not die!
This sea will not be where he lies.
But he is man, what he needs most
Is land and I can’t see the coast!”
The moon replied with my light I’ll lead
But hasten quick! Great is his need!
Let your tail grab my moonlight
So I may guide you through the night
And the maid swam quickly with fear
To save the man she held so dear
To the sailor the girl appeared
He thanked the moon oh so dear,
The maid said “Please keep close
For of all I love you the most!
I will warm you and get you on land
I’ll hold you tightly in my hands.
He replied ”it is not land I miss,
But you fair jewel and your kiss.
For if I go to land I must leave you
And I can’t do that and start anew
Now I see you death I don’t fear!
Not under this moon we hold so dear.
The maiden heard this and she wept
Because in the sea she’d always slept
She could not follow him to land
And would miss the touch of his strong hands
Her tears were many and came to
His one lone tear, his face held true
But the moon saw this and she smiled
For she had hoped this all the while
That the sailors love was as strong
As the maidens had been all along
And from the tears she let the man
Take away his legs he used to stand
And become just like his ocean love
A glorious tail for him from above
The sailor and girl cried out in glee
For now together they could be
And kissed each other with joyful tears
Under the moon they held so dear.
